Santa Claus Isn't the Only One With a List! E-mail

Most Internet marketers strive to build a list of potential clients that they can regularly market to and if you're considering Internet marketing you should consider list-building as just one of your Internet marketing strategies.  One of the most important aspects of list building, however, is to make sure you are building a list of targeted potential customers and not just a list of email addresses.  Anyone can amass a huge list of email addresses; doing so won't necessarily bring you any business.  What you need is a list of email addresses that belong to people who are actually interested in your product.

List Building Strategies

So how do you get potential customers to give you their email addresses?  The easiest and most effective way to do this is to offer them something in return.  When visitors come to your website, make sure there is plenty of information there to keep them interested and offer them even more.  You can do this by offering free ecourses, newsletters, or other freebies that would necessitate them entering their names and email addresses into an opt-in form on your site.

Almost everyone responds to freebies in one sense or another.  Regardless of what you are selling, you should be able to come up with interesting information about your niche or your product that would interest others.  If you're marketing software or a program you have developed, you might even consider offering a trial version to potential customers for free.  This is an excellent way to gain customers and build a well targeted list.

You might even consider giving one product away completely free in order to build a well targeted list of potential customers for the rest of your products.  This could be a program, an ebook, a report, or almost anything else you can deliver digitally.  Food companies have been giving away free samples for decades; this is a powerful way to draw in new customers.  Once they've "tasted" your product, they'll be more interested in buying what you are selling.

Building Trust While Building Your List

Be sure and offer your customers an easy way to opt-out of your email marketing campaign whenever they choose.  Realize that while you are building your list you should also be building trust.  Don't flood your customers and potential customers with hard sell emails that make them reach for the delete button.  Once they have agreed to receive emails from you, make sure each email that you send out adds value to their lives in some way.

Savvy marketers that use email marketing as part of their overall Internet marketing campaign know that it usually takes several contacts before customers actually buy.  It is your job to make these contacts a pleasant experience for your customers and potential customers.  After all, if they don't open your email that contains a link leading back to your website you haven't scored any points. Make your emails interesting and short and always offer them something that will add value to their lives.  Maybe you have developed a product that will save them time or money or allow them to do something they already do easier.  Don't just push the product; offer solutions and you will gain customers.
